November 1st – Arthur Dunn Cup Preliminary Round: Shrewsbury 2-0 Harrow
A weakened
team travelled up the M6 to face the cup holders knowing that a repeat of the
5-1 league success gained over their opponents a few weeks earlier was
unlikely. With Dunn Cup games traditionally played on school pitches if
possible, it was widely expected that the Salopians would field a number of
superior local players who are usually unavailable for league encounters.
Unfortunately that was the way it turned out.
Harrow
made a disastrous start, conceding two goals in the first five minutes and they
could not recover. A couple of decent chances fell to Harry
Hoffen before the break, but having failed
to convert them, any hopes of a recovery were lost.
Having
reached two semi-finals in successive years, the Harrow
team has now lost in the first round for the last two years running and will
undoubtedly be hoping for a slightly kinder draw next year.
