2s dig deep to see off valiant Aldenham side

19 Feb 2017

The OHAFC 2nd XI had to produce one of their gutsiest performances of the season to see off the strong challenge of an Aldenham side whose enterprising play made a mockery of their lowly League position.

Despite an early goal from Jack Alhadeff, Geoff Taunton-Collins' men were second best for much of the contest and had to dig deep to maintain their promotion challenge.

A penalty allowed the visitors to level before the break and the hosts then enjoyed two large slices of luck: David Lederman saw his over-hit free-kick somehow fumbled into the net before a loud penalty claim for handball against Harry Woolley was denied.

Gbeminyi Soyinka scored a third for the hosts but Aldenham pulled one back soon after ensuring a tense finale. Thankfully Soyinka converted a Lederman cross late on to ensure a sixth successive home League victory this season.

With two games remaining the 2s need just a point to ensure promotion - that is if Chigwell's second string win their remaining games: any dropped points and Harrow will be able to celebrate.
