Breeden magic leads 1s to vital victory over rivals

22 Jan 2018

A superlative display from leading scorer James Breeden helped the OHAFC 1st XI to a vital 5-3 victory over their main challengers for promotion, the Old Berkhamstedians, in Chiswick on Saturday.

In awful conditions, with heavy rain and a strong breeze blowing throughout, Breeden opened the scoring with a magnificent 30-yard free-kick that sailed into the top corner.

Freddie Brunt and Josh Adejokun then combined to double the lead, the former crossing for the latter to head home from close range.

On the hour mark James Breeden scored Harrow's third with a superb individual goal, slaloming past three defenders before smashing the ball in off the underside of the bar from a narrow angle.

The hosts took advantage of some indecisive Harrow defending to reduce the arrears to 3-2 but Breeden again showed his class, cutting in from the right wing before drilling a left-foot shot low into the bottom corner to complete a memorable hat-trick.

He still wasn't finished however, robbing the last defender and nonchalantly slotting home to make the score 5-2. A late penalty allowed Berkhamsted a third, but by this stage the result was beyond doubt.

The win lifts Harrow into second in the table with five games left, the first of which is another crunch clash - the visit of Brentwoods to the Hill next Saturday.
