3s head to play-offs buoyed by stylish win

16 Apr 2018

The OHAFC 3rd XI completed their League programme for 2017/18 with a stylish 4-1 win away to the Old Westminsters 2s on Saturday, confirming their status as worthy champions of Division Five South and sending the team into Saturday's promotion play-off decider with Brentwood 3s full of confidence.

Despite dominating the early exchanges, the Blues fell behind after a quarter of an hour when a long ball over the top saw 'keeper Chuka Ilogu collide with a forward and the ball run loose to a Westminster player to fire into the unguarded net. Ilogu was forced off with a bruised forearm, forcing striker Alex Smith to don the gloves.

Fortunately, he was barely required as the visitors continued to pile on the pressure. Kyle Barrett headed in from a corner to level prior to the break and second half goals from Ned Callander, Cyprian Owen-Edmunds and Alec Fogarty capped off a hugely impressive display.

Nick Kapoor's men now travel to Merchant Taylors on Saturday to face Brentwoods 3s with the winners earning promotion into Division Four. Should they emerge victorious, the side would face one final game, against the winners of the other play-off - Columbans v Shirburnians - to determine the overall Division Five champions.

Saturday's team lineup, match report and photos from the first half are now available in the results section here.
