Weekend Round-Up: 1s & 3s begin 2024 in style

9 Jan 2024

The OHAFC 1st and 3rd XIs both began 2024 in style, earning important League victories.

The 1s fell behind early at home to the Old Tonbridgians on astroturf but levelled quickly, John Koutalides scoring his first ever goal for the club. The second half proved a tense affair but the deadlock was broken with twenty minutes remaining when Arther Leney tapped in at the far post following Koutalides' deflected shot.

The key moment arrived ten minutes later when the visitors hit the bar before the hosts immediately broke upfield, Jasper Gray squaring for Oli Acar to fire a left-foot shot past the keeper (pictured). Although the Tonbridgians scrambled a second with two minutes remaining, the Blues held on to earn the 3-2 win and climb into fourth in the table.

The OHFC 3s endured a similar struggle in their bid to earn revenge for an earlier defeat to the Old Amplefordians this season. On the King's House astroturf in Chiswick the visitors took a first-half lead when debutant Rupert Stonehill was fouled inside the box, skipper Joss Awdry converting the penalty.

But a scrappy second half ensued and the result was only settled inside the final ten minutes, Dan Graham tapping in after Reuben Bird-Tulloch (another debutant) saw his effort parried by the keeper, before Stonehill capped a memorable day by scoring a fine third, chipping the keeper from twenty-five yards out.

Team sheets and reports from both games are now available in the results section.
