3s & Vets go in search of glory

15 Mar 2018

This weekend sees the OHAFC 3rd and Veterans XIs take the next steps on their respective paths to glory this season as both sides face vital encounters.

The 3s are up first with a Division Five South against Old Westminsters 2s on the Hill on Saturday. The Blues require just a solitary point to ensure they are crowned Division Five South champions.

Winning the division would not in itself earn the Blues promotion into Division Four: the team would have to beat the side finishing second in Division Five North in a promotion play-off game. Currently, Old Columbans and Brentwoods 3s are locked in a battle to finish top of that division.

The 3s are also in the hunt for Cup success, having successfully sealed a place in the David Woolcott Trophy semi-finals. They will face either Old Alleynians 2s or Old Johnians for a place in the final on April 21st.

Also in the hunt for Cup success, yet again, are the OHAFC Veterans, who should travel to Chigwell on Sunday morning for their long-delayed Cup quarter-final. The weather forecast suggests snow may be on the way so the fixture may yet be postponed. With the Easter weekend to come, fitting in a rearranged quarter-final and semi-final before the final itself on Sunday, April 15th may prove troublesome.

The OHAFC Vets are already hampered with the late pull-outs of some key players: Quentin Baker, Paul Molloy and Ed Poulter have all announced themselves unavailable for Sunday so a bare eleven are likely to make the journey north should the fixture go ahead.

The rest of the competition is already advanced sufficiently, with Old Malvernians awaiting a home tie in the semi-finals against the winners of Sunday's game and Brentwoods and Forest, last season's winners, contesting the other semi-final.

Good luck to both sides in their respective quests for glory this weekend.
