Closing win not enough to earn 2s the title

3 Apr 2017

Despite finally overcoming a valiant Citizens side that played the whole game with a numerical disadvantage, the OHAFC2s finally had to settle for the runners-up spot in Division Three. Long-time leaders the Old Alleynians drew 2-2 at Aldenham 2s on Saturday and so, when the dust settled, it was the side from south London that claimed top spot on goal difference.

It was tough luck on Geoff Taunton-Collins' men, who battled hard to defeat a spirited Citizens side 2-1 in Grove Park, Doug Pratt - with his first for the club - and Max Curry the goalscorers.

But the 2-1 win eventually proved two goals short of what was required to oust Alleynians at the death.

Nevertheless, the side can take great pride in a superb season that saw them end with a record of eleven wins and a draw from fourteen games and a return to Division Two for the first time since the 2009/10 season.

The final 2nd XI team lineup of the season, along with Saturday's match report, are now available in the results section here.
