Late collapse sees 1st XI promotion hopes fade

28 Nov 2017

The OHAFC 1st XI's hopes of promotion back into the Premier Division of the Arthurian League suffered a severe setback on Saturday when a disastrous last half-hour saw the side concede five goals to the unbeaten Old Berkhamstedians on Harrow Hill.

An even game to that point had seen both sides create chances without success. Harrow had wasted their best opportunity when Josh Adejokun unselfishly squared with just the 'keeper to beat, but he overhit his pass, forcing Charlie Bick wide of goal.

Berkhamsted scored twice in quick succession with half an hour remaining but Kyle Barrett, with his first ever goal for the team, headed home from a corner to halve the deficit.

Disappointingly, the hosts then collapsed in the closing stages as Berkhamsted cut through on a regular basis. The final scoreline barely reflected the quality of the two sides.

The Blues remain in fourth place in Division One but the gap to the top two - Bradfield and Berkhamsted - is now eight points. The side now have a week off and a chance to regroup before returning to action with a game against the struggling Malvernians on December 9th.
