OHAFC 3s reach DWT final with stunning win

8 Apr 2024

The OHAFC 3rd XI created history on Saturday, reaching a Cup final for the first time in the side's existence with a magnificent 3-2 win away to the Old Brentwoods 3s in Essex.

Two early goals from Alfie Hayes put the visitors in command, the hosts pulling one back just before the break.

A titanic struggle ensued in the second half as Brentwoods pushed forwards looking for the equaliser. But with just over twenty minutes remaining Alvin Adefarasin won a free-kick on the edge of the box and skipper Joss Awdry stepped up to curl his shot over the wall and into the top corner.

There was still drama to come however as the hosts again responded, scoring their second with ten minutes remaining to set up a titanic ending to the game. Wave after wave of Brentwoods pressure was repelled, the Blues just about holding on and, understandably, greeting the referee's whistle with a mixture of joy and sheer relief.

The win sees an OHAFC side reach Finals Day for the first time since its inception - when all three Arthurian League finals are played back-to-back at Merchant Taylors School in Northwood - and the side will face familiar opponents on April 20th: the Old Berkhamstedians 2s are top of Division Four and have had the better of things in the two League meetings between the sides this season, earning a 2-2 draw on the Hill but running out comfortable 6-0 winners in the return fixture.
