Referee Richard Wilson passes away

14 Feb 2018

The club was saddened to learn today that Arthurian League referee Richard Wilson suddenly passed away over the weekend.

Richard was a well known face on the League circuit, having refereed for many years. He had previously played for the Old Malvernians and represented them in no less than five winning Arthur Dunn Cup finals.

Richard refereed 14 OHAFC League games over the past decade, as well as the Veterans Cup Final against the Etonians in 2014, and was still refereeing until undergoing an operation just prior to Christmas. He was recovering well and had hoped to resume his officiating in due course.

His last OHAFC game was the final game of last season for the 3rd XI, a surprisingly competitive 2-2 draw at Brunel University in Uxbridge (pictured). And he was to play a large part in the final outcome, awarding a last-minute penalty to the visitors for a foul on Jesse Duah. Alex Smith converted and the game finished straight after the restart.

Richard was always one of the more cheerful and talkative League referees, who, although not keen on having his decisions disputed, would happily discuss them in the bar after the game.

He will be missed by all who played in the Arthurian League and the club would like to send its' condolences to Richard's family and friends at this time.
