Sloppy goals cost 3s against Ampleforth

16 Nov 2016

The OHAFC 3rd XI battled bravely in the rain on Harrow Hill on Saturday afternoon but were ultimately undone by some unfortunate errors at the back, as well as a highly controversial refereeing decision, to lose 5-2 to the Old Amplefordians.

The side were competing on level terms midway through the first half before 'keeper Michael Nugent was caught out by a long-range lob before he then spilled a shot in the tricky conditions allowing a simple tap-in.

Harrow were to score a fortunate goal of their own at the other end when Charlie Bick's free-kick from the left wing evaded everybody before skidding off the turf and into the far top corner.

When striker Oli Walker then scored with a superb lob from outside the box it appeared as though the momentum was with the home side and a precious victory was there for the taking.

But an extremely harsh penalty decision for handball then went against them and as the game wore on it was the visitors who proved the stronger, scoring twice more late on.

The result was harsh on the Blues who performed well throughout in tricky conditions and deserved more from the game.

The team lineup and full match report courtesy of the skipper, Ollie Feather, is now available in the results section.
