Vets earn Cup reprieve following Chigwell withdrawal

20 Mar 2018

In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, the OHAFC Veterans were reinstated to the Derrick Moore Veterans Cup after Sunday's quarter-final opponents Chigwellians admitted to fielding an ineligible player in their squad.

The game had finished in a titanic 3-2 win for the hosts, with Chigs scoring twice in the final six minutes of extra-time to apparently book their place in the last four against Malvernians.

However, it had been noted by several Harrovians prior to kick-off that one of the Chigwell players had regularly represented another club in the Arthurian League. Following a brief discussion between the captains on Tuesday, it was announced that Chigs would in fact forfeit Sunday's game and the OHAFC would progress.

The decision means that the Club will, for the first time in its' history, be playing in three Cup semi-finals in the same season: the day before the Veterans take on Malvern in Uxbridge, the 2s host Kimboltonians in the Junior League Cup and the 3s travel to Twickenham to face Old Johnians in the David Woolcott Trophy.

Previews of all three games will appear later this week.
