2s finally succumb in extra-time to exit Old Boys Cup

18 Dec 2018

The OHAFC 2nd XI put up a valiant fight and had their chances before finally succumbing to a strong Old Parkonians 2s side in the quarter-finals of the Junior Old Boys Cup on Saturday.

The Blues made a perfect start to the tie on the Hill when Andres Hutchinson blasted in a spectacular 25-yard shot with just under a quarter of an hour played. Parkonians responded shortly before the break with a header from a free-kick - another set-piece goal conceded, something of a habit in recent weeks.

The second half ebbed and flowed but as the tie wore on, the visitors gradually took control and for the last twenty minutes had several chances to end the contest, most notably from the spot after Charlie Walsh brought down the centre-forward. Fortuantely, the spot-kick was blasted over the bar and Walsh went on to make several superb saves to keep the Blues alive.

But seven minutes into extra-time a strong run and shot down the Harrow right saw the ball squirm under the keeper's body and that was to prove the fatal blow.

The team must now concentrate on climbing up the Division Two table and their Junior League Cup campaign which begins in the new year.
