3s stumble in promotion race
The OHAFC 3rd XI continue to make life hard for themselves in their quest to end the current season with tangible reward for their considerable efforts.
Having been knocked out of both the Junior League Cup and David Woolcott Trophy on penalties, and seen their hopes of claiming the Division Four title wiped out by defeat at home to the Suttonians a fortnight ago, Saturday saw the side stumble once more as the promotion race nears its climax.
Fixtures away to the Old Eastbournians on the tight, bumpy pitches at Barn Elms are tricky at the best of times and this occasion proved no different. Tommy Faber gave the visitors the lead minutes into the second half and with neither side able to create many chances, a slim 1-0 win appeared on the cards.
But with twenty minutes remaining a long ball over the top of Harrow back four allowed the Eastbournians striker to run through and calmly lob the ball over the stranded Tom Mitchell.
Despite frantic efforts in the closing stages to reclaim the lead, the Blues were ultimately left frustrated and now need to win their final two fixtures at home to Old Bancroftians next weekend and then away to the Old Columbans to have a chance of going up.
