4th XI's first game ends in heart-breaking defeat

13 Dec 2018

The inaugural OHAFC 4th XI fixture ended in heart-breaking defeat for skipper Ed Nicholson and his side when they narrowly lost 2-1 to the Old Eastbournians in the Preliminary Round of the Junior League Cup on Saturday.

Despite putting up a brave fight, the Division Four side proved just too strong. Mike Watford had the honour of scoring the 4s' first ever goal, but the real story came five minutes from time when James Monroe had a golden opportunity to draw the sides level - sadly he missed from the spot and the Eastbournians could breathe a huge sigh of relief.

The 4s team contained no less than nine players making their OHAFC debuts and the experience, despite the result, was enjoyed by all. Indeed, it is a tremendous achievement by the club in fielding four sides on the Saturday, not forgetting a full squad of fourteen for the Vets Cup a day later.

Hopefully, this fixture will be the start of a regular 4th XI team in the not-too-distant future.
