Baker to take on Ironman Triathlon in Las Vegas

29 Aug 2013

On Sunday September 8th, Quentin Baker will compete at the 'Ironman 70.3 Triathlon World Championships' taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 75,000 athletes competed in the Worldwide 70.3 series, the top 300-400 in each age category qualifying for this season's final race.

Quentin qualified via a race in the UK in June for the 35-9 age group. A "70.3" triathlon consists of the usual three sports, swimming, cycling and running, with a combined distance of 70.3 miles. This particular race begins with a 1.2-mile swim in Lake Las Vegas, a challenging 56-mile bike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area and finishes with a 13.1-mile run through Vegas, with views of the Las Vegas Strip.

The course has been designed to be befitting of a World Championship race, i.e. it is hilly! In addition competitors will have to battle with race day temperatures expected to top 41 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, race day photos and brief updates will be uploaded to Quen's Facebook page on the day.
