Depleted Vets knocked out of Cup by Brentwoods

The OHAFC Veterans were knocked out of the Vets Cup by the Old Brentwoods on Sunday morning following a 4-2 defeat at the Bank of England Ground.

Brentwoods arrived for the game with a full squad of fourteen, in stark contrast to the OHs, who could only name a bare eleven including a clearly unfit Lederman, who had been suffering from a chest infection all week.

The difference in squad availability eventually proved decisive, despite the hosts taking the lead on the half hour through a Dom Danos penalty following a foul on Paul Molloy.

Brentwoods levelled from a corner and the sides remained locked at 1-1 until midway through the second half when the visitors' superior fitness finally told. Two goals in the space of five minutes killed the tie, a near post cross-shot was fumbled into the net by keeper Andy Butler before some slack marking at a free-kick allowed a free run on goal for a midfielder.

Brentwoods fourth arrived courtesy of a cross from their right, before the hosts had the final word, Lederman crossing for skipper Wyn-Evans to head home into the bottom corner. Brentwoods will now face Foresters for a place in the final.
