Last straw for Chigs as 1st XI scrape through in Dunn

8 Dec 2014

The OHAFC 1st XI scraped into the quarter-finals of the Arthur Dunn Cup for the second time in three seasons on Saturday thanks to a last-minute goal from an unlikely source - centre-half Will Orr-Ewing added to his first ever goal for the team in the previous round with a timely close-range effort a minute from time to settle a tie that for much of the second half the home side looked in danger of losing.

Chigwell scored early and had Harrow on the back foot for most of the first half but the hosts slowly forced their way back into the match and were on top when they equalised ten minutes from half-time, Alex Breeden crossing for Jack Hill to slot home.

Chigwell were the stronger side in the second half and were unlucky to find themselves on the wrong end of two harsh refereeing decisions that could have proved crucial to the game's outcome: Fred Richardson only received a yellow card when he brought down a Chigwell striker through on goal and soon afterwards a shove in the back by Quentin Baker inside the box went unpunished.

Harrow rode their luck to snatch victory at the end when a Lederman free-kick fell to the feet of Will Orr-Ewing and he gleefully smashed home from close range.

The draw for the quarter-finals takes place next week.
