Lederman set to break consecutive appearances record

21 Mar 2014

Thirty-nine year-old veteran right winger David Lederman will this Saturday become the first OH player in history to turn out in 32 consecutive 1st XI games when he features for the side in their League fixture away to Brentwood.

The winger has missed just one match in the last two seasons, the 4-0 drubbing by Eton at Harrow in November 2012, thanks to Rupert Hoffen unhelpfully hosting his stag weekend mid-season. Since then Lederman hasn't missed a competitive match, winning 13, drawing 3 and losing 15 of the 31 games. He also appeared in both the Tour games in Sofia, Bulgaria last Easter.

Lederman is in fact breaking his own record of 31 unbroken appearances set a few years ago - which he equalled when skippering the 1's to victory over Lancing last Saturday - a remarkable feat considering that apart from former skipper Quentin Baker's run of 30 games, no-one else has played in more than 20 consecutive 1st XI matches.

For the 2nd XI, Phil Berry currently holds the record for the longest run of appearances with 17 consecutive games played.

Despite consistently being questioned by teammates over his retirement plans, Lederman is showing no signs of slowing down just yet - not only has he appeared in all 1st XI games this season, he has also played every Vets game, both friendlies and Cup matches. This weekend he will be the sole OHAFC player to make the trip to Brentwood on the Saturday and then return to north London on the Sunday morning for the Vets Cup semi-final with Forest.

His reward, apart from a possible place in the Vets Cup final, will be Sunday lunch cooked by Vets skipper John Wyn-Evans.

When asked what he put his longevity down to, Lederman said: "Not having anything else to do on a Saturday apart from talk to my cat and beat Freddie Brunt at table tennis."
