OH Vets suffer defeat in opening friendly of the season

1 Oct 2012

The OH Vets opened their friendly match programme of the 2012/13 season on Sunday with an unfortunate 4-2 defeat to a well-organised Old Witans side at the Bank of England Sports Club in Roehampton, south west London.

John Wyn-Evans' side harshly trailed 3-1 at the break, Ben Stones scoring with a neat left-footed finish after Witans had opened a 2-0 lead, albeit their second goal looking offside.

A much-improved display in the second half saw the OH Vets dominate much of the play but somehow fail to find the back of the net until ten minutes from time, Ben Stones finally converting one of numerous chances that had been created to grab his second of the game.

A combination of good goal-keeping and the woodwork kept Harrow out, whilst at the other end one long punt forward saw Witans score their fourth and end the match as a contest.

The Vets return to action next Sunday with an intriguing fixture against Lancing Vets - the sides have been drawn to meet each other in the first round of the Derrick Moore Veterans Cup in late Novemeber and are the last two winners of the competition.

Kick-off at the Bank of England Ground will be 11am as usual.
