Set-pieces again see 2s come unstuck at Forest

11 Dec 2018

For the second time in consecutive seasons, the OHAFC 2nd XI squandered a winning position away to Forest 2s in Essex, with set-pieces again proving the side's downfall.

Playing into a strong wind in the first half, the Blues battled bravely and scored an excellent opener, Tom Ward finding Will Payne over the top and he squared unselfishly for Cyprian Owen-Edmunds to fire home. The visitors were soon under the cosh, but held out until the break thanks to some robust defending and a bit of luck.

But a long throw was headed in just a minute after the break to level the scores and from then on it was the hosts who took control. Forest scored the winner with twenty minutes remaining, a long free-kick was flicked on and finished past Fraser McGuinness.

Owen-Edmunds came closest to earning a point when he fired onto the crossbar from a narrow angle, but the second half was one to forget for Geoff Taunton-Collins' men.

There is no rest for the team as they face two more games before Christmas, both at Harrow, starting with this weekend's Old Boys Cup quarter-final against the Old Parkonians' 2nd XI.
