Three appearance records set to fall on Saturday
The 2nd and 3rd XI fixtures on Saturday should both see an unusual trio of OHAFC attendance records being set.
In the 3rd XI game away at Old Bancroftians, Club Secretary Harry Woolley will, if he plays, become the first OHAFC player on record to have represented the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Veteran XI's in the same season.
Harry was present on the opening day of the season back in mid-September when the 1st XI capitulated badly to a fitter, stronger, better prepared Forest side who eventually ran out 8-1 winners.
A series of injuries meant that game was Harry's sole appearance until the middle of November when he reappeared in the 2nd XI that beat Epsom 5-4 on the Hill.
Two further appearances followed in the subsequent weeks but a further series of ailments meant that he wasn't seen kitted up again until his debut Vets run out at the Bank of England Ground two weeks ago. The Vets went down 5-4 to Witan Old Boys but Harry came through the hour-long game unscathed and with 2nd XI skipper Jack Orr-Ewing able to call on a strong squad for Saturday's trip to Brentwood, Harry finds himself selected for the 3's trip to Bancroftians and the chance to make his own piece of OHAFC history.
Two more minor appearance records will be set in the Brentwood fixture that are both worth noting.
Geoff Taunton-Collins will, in his debut season with the Club, become the first player this campaign to make 20 Saturday appearances. Geoff's achievement is especially creditable given that he only began playing this season and he has already proved himself a more than useful addition to the playing ranks, with four League appearances for the 1st XI, 12 League appearances for the 2nd XI as well as playing in all three Junior League Cup ties for Jack Orr-Ewing's side. No wonder he's been christened 'Super Geoff' in some quarters...
Other players likely to hit the 20-game mark for the season are Phil Berry and David Lederman (both currently on 18 and playing on Saturday), with Alex Breeden, Jack Orr-Ewing and Azhar Khan (all on 17 games currently) still in with a realistic shout of the magic number.
Indeed, Lederman is set for his own appearance record on Saturday when he becomes the first player on record to make three official appearances away to Old Brentwoods in the same season.
The veteran winger was forced to endure two trips to Essex in December and both proved miserable experiences: the Vets lost 7-3 in the first round of the Derrick Moore Cup on a mudbath of a pitch and a couple of weeks later, five days before Christmas, he travelled with the 1st XI only to find the pitch in a slightly worse state and an even more unflattering scoreline than before, 8-2 in the home side's favour. The two results mean that his aggregate score for his two trips this season are 15-5 in Brentwoods' favour.
The 2nd XI will very much be hoping this is not an omen of things to come on Saturday...
