Vets fall to narrow defeat in friendly versus Lancing

6 Oct 2014

The OHAFC Vets produced a spirited rearguard action on Sunday morning to restrict a strong visiting Lancing side to just a single goal but couldn't find a way through themselves and ultimately lost their second friendly of the season 1-0.

Skipper John Wyn-Evans was forced to call up a number of ringers for Sunday's game and the side were soon pegged back in their own half as Lancing, who were able to play most of their first-choice veterans, began to enjoy long spells of possession.

The hosts held out until shortly before half-time following a number of fine saves from Harrow's debutant 'keeper Sean and some glaring misses from the visitors.

The second half was a much more even contest though as some tactical adjustments saw Harrow enjoy more possession and Lancing fail to threaten nearly as much.

Indeed, the hosts could count themselves extremely unfortunate not to have at least earned the chance of an equaliser when it appeared as though Jon Ingram was clumsily hacked down just inside the box following a driving run. Referee Giles Paul was unmoved however, waving vociferous appeals away from several players (and your match reporter). He must have been blinded by the stunning sunshine!

Lancing held on to claim the deserved win and consign the OHAFC to an '0&2' record on the season.

VETS CUP DRAW

The OHAFC, who have reached the Cup final twice and Plate final once in the past three seasons, have been drawn away to the winners of the Brentwood v Malvern tie in the First Round of the competition.

This year a preliminary round has been added to accommodate the extra clubs entering the competition.
