Weekend Round-Up: Etonians end 2s' JLC hopes

20 Feb 2023

The OHAFC 2nd XI's hopes of JLC success were ended in disappointing fashion on Saturday morning, the 2s conceding twice late on to lose 4-2 at home to the Old Etonians second string.

The Blues conceded twice midway through the first half but a penalty converted by David Lederman just before the break and an equaliser from Tristan David five minutes into the second half set the tie up for a grandstand finish.

Unfortunately, it was the Etonians who stayed the course, scoring twice in the closing minutes via a defensive mix-up and a breakaway goal as time ran out. The 2s are left with five League games in which to secure their Division Two future.

There was better news from the adjoining Phil pitch however, as the 3s scraped past the Old Amplefordians in rather controversial circumstances.

The visitors had a goal chalked off midway through the first half after Ed Nicholson was felled by a flailing arm, leaving him with blood pouring from his nose. The visitors were then incensed when a handball appeared to prevent a goalbound shot from crossing the line, apparently unseen by the referee.

But the hosts were rewarded for their overall display late on when Alvin Adefarasin raced onto an Olly Roberts pass to coolly beat the keeper and ensure the three points would be staying on the Hill. The win ensures the 3s are safe from any relegation worries and can now focus their efforts on the DW Trophy.

Team sheets and reports from both games are now available in the results section.
