Weekend Round-Up: Injuries add to results woe

17 Oct 2023

It proved to be a disappointing weekend for the club with all three sides losing their League fixtures. In addition, 1st XI defender Nic Blinoff was carried off with a snapped achilled tendon which required him to be taken to hospital.

The 1s lost 3-0 at home to the Old Tonbridgians on the Phil, all three goals coming midway through the second half. The Blues were hampered by earlier injuries to both Fabian Dobree and Cyprian Owen Edmunds, the latter unable to take part in the second half.

A makeshift 2s side travelled north to face the Old Haberdashers and came within a minute of earning a very creditable 2-2 draw, only to concede at the death. Max Curry gave the visitors an early lead but the hosts levelled from the spot. The second half saw Habs take the lead with a well-worked goal, but the OHAFC responded quickly through an unlikely source - keeper David Griffiths, playing in midfield due to a lack of numbers, rose superbly at the far post to head in a David Lederman corner. But under mounting pressure the Blues finally cracked, a long cross to the far post was headed back across goal and turned in first-time. The visitors' mood wasn't helped when it was discovered after the game had ended that Habs had fielded several ringers in their squad. The matter is now in the hands of the League.

Back on the Phil, the OHAFC 3s also took an early lead at home to the Old Westminsters 2s, but they too failed to hold on. The visitors scored twice before half-time before withstanding considerable late Harrow pressure to take all three points.

All three team sheets and match reports are now available in the results section.
