Weekend Round-Up: 1's, 2's and Vets all win

7 Oct 2012

It was a highly-successful weekend for the club with the 1st XI enjoying an 8-0 mauling of Tonbridge and the 2nd XI scoring a dramatic winner with the last kick of the game to beat Eton's second string 2-1 in their first outing of the season. On Sunday, John Wyn-Evans' Vets side grabbed their first win of the season with an enjoyable 4-2 victory over Lancing.

Fred Milln was the headline act in the 1's comprehensive dismantling of Tonbridge on the Hill. The big centre-half scored two first-half headers and, with the result beyond doubt in the second half, was then presented with the opportunity to score a first-ever hat-trick with a penalty - a chance he just about took.

Further fine goals from Brunt, Lederman, de Rougemont, Bourke and Stebbings confirmed the win, despite the home side struggling at times to impose themselves on a confident Tonbridge otufit.

The 2nd XI belatedly began their League campaign with an important 2-1 win at Eton, Bemini Soyinka scoring both the goals, the second coming as the referee was about to blow the full-time whistle. Despite it being their first game of the season, the win puts the 2's third in Division Three with home games against Winchester and Kings Wimbledon's second XI's to come.

The Vets made it three wins out of three on Sunday morning with two goals from Ben Stones, one from Andy Nicholson and one from David Lederman, his second of the weekend. The Vets now have a week off before their next fixture against Winchester on October 21st.
