Weekend Round-Up: 1s cling on for epic victory

24 Nov 2025

A busy weekend for the OHAFC with all three sides in action. The 1st XI were the sole winners, eventually grinding out an extraordinary 6-4 victory at home to the struggling Old Wykehamists. But the 2s and 3s both suffered defeats, the 2s falling 1-0 to the Old Carthusians 2s at home despite the visitors having a man sent off midway through the first half, whilst the 3s fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to the Old Shirburnians down in Hampton.

Even given the notorious vagaries of Arthurian League football, the fixture between the OHAFC 1s and their Winchester counterparts provided an extraordinary spectacle on the Hill. The hosts blitzed their opponents with six of the best prior to half-time, George Taylor scoring a hat-trick in addition to individual contributions from John Koutalides, Cam Mahal and skipper Dan Firoozan. But in true OHAFC fashion, the side capitulated after the break, allowing Winchester to score four unanswered goals themselves and set up a scarcely believable cliff-hanger finish. Fortunately, the Blues held on to record a second win of the season that keeps the side in seventh in Division One.

The OHAFC 2nd XI could have been forgiven for thinking that an early red card to a Carthusian midfielder for a rather reckless challenge might lead them to score six on the adjoining Phil pitch. But this proved a hugely frustrating morning for the Blues as the visitors sat deep and repelled numerous Harrow attacks before snatching an unlikely win with the only goal of the game, a breakaway goal with twenty minutes remaining that ended with the ball being smashed into the top corner from just inside the box. The 2s drop to sixth in Division Three as a result – their lowest league position of the season.

Despite the 3-0 scoreline, the OHAFC 3rd XI were involved in a far tighter encounter away to the Old Shirburnians down in Hampton. A hard-fought encounter saw the visitors defend stoically playing into a strong wind in the first half, but all their hard work was undone with two goals conceded in a matter of two minutes either side of the break. A third Shirburnians effort with twenty minutes remaining, courtesy of a poor clearance, killed off any hopes of a late comeback. Bizarrely, the 3s actually climb off the bottom of Division Four on goal difference for the first time since late September.
