Weekend Round-Up: 2s collapse to first defeat
Wins continue to prove hard to come by for the OHAFC this season, with the 1s earning a point at the death, the 2s falling to a first defeat of the season and a threadbare 3rd XI running out of steam down on the banks of the Thames.
The OHAFC 2nd XI had secured four points from six heading into Saturday's clash with the undefeated Old Westminsters 2s on the Harrow School astro but came away empty handed following some less than convincing defending. A free header from a corner just two minutes in allowed the visitors an early lead and a soft penalty conceded by Calum Butler sunk the Blues deeper into the mire.
A superb strike from Owain James and a header from Max Curry brought the hosts right back into the contest, but the second half saw the unbeaten Westminsters pile on the pressure and they sealed the win courtesy of another header from a corner and a breakaway goal.
The OHAFC 1st XI had an early morning trip across London to face the Westminsters senior team in the shadow of Canary Wharf. The home side took the lead midway through the first half but the Blues, searching for a first win of the season, kept battling and were rewarded for their efforts when striker George Taylor bundled in from close range in the closing moments.
Later in the day, across town south of Hampton Court, a makeshift 3s side gave their all but eventually ran out of steam in a Division Four clash against the Old Kingstonians. The Blues started slowly and fell behind but improved as the half wore on. But fatigue set in as the second half wore on and two late goals sealed the win for the home side.
Team sheets and match reports from the 2nd & 3rd XI games are now available in the results section, the 1st XI match report is due in shortly.
