Weekend Round-Up: Historic trio of results!

1 Dec 2025

Another busy weekend for the OHAFC ended with surely the most statistically quirky set of results in club history for the three sides: all three teams drew, the 1s 1-1, the 2s 2-2 and, you’ve guessed it, the 3s 3-3!

The 3s result was perhaps the most remarkable of the lot with the Blues fielding no fewer than FOUR goalkeepers in their twelve-man squad at home to the Old Kingstonians on the Phil. At one stage, the entire front three consisted of Fraser McGuinness, Tom Mitchell and Harison Saunders – all more usually found wearing the gloves. Nevertheless, the Blues still found a way to grind out a valuable point in an entertaining game in tricky conditions. Kingstonians took the lead after twenty minutes but the hosts hit back courtesy of goals from David Lederman, his first of the season, and Simon Nicholson. The visitors hit back with a headed goal twenty minutes from time to level at 2-2 but the OHAFC, remarkably, retook the lead in stunning fashion when Saunders flicked on a long throw for Fraser McGuinness to volley gleefully home from fifteen yards out. Sadly, the Blues couldn’t hold on, the Kingstonians snatching a point via a desperate goalmouth scramble just a few minutes from time.

The OHAFC 2s were also involved in an entertaining draw on the adjoining Phil pitch, although the point gained from a 2-2 result against the Old Chigwellians 2s left the home side feeling their reward had not matched the quality of their performance. A couple of defensive errors gifted the visitors a two-goal lead but a storming second-half comeback saw the hosts level through efforts from Ed Stewart and substitute Henry Bamford. The hosts pushed forwards in search of the winner, both Miles Kellock and Max Curry hitting the bar, but Chigs held out for the draw – a result which keeps the OHAFC in sixth in Division Three.

Finally, the OHAFC 1st XI had to dig deep to earn a respectable 1-1 draw away to their Dunn Cup conquerors, the Old Rugbeians on the astroturf in Whitton. The visitors had a shambolic start to proceedings when Tom Walduck overslept and failed to bring the match shirts. This required no fewer than three of the players who had featured for the 3s earlier in the day to start the game for the 1s: Tom’s brother James, keeper Tom Mitchell and veteran David Lederman, one of the few over 50s to have featured at this level in the League. All three acquitted themselves well, however, and at the break the Blues led by a goal to nil, Charlie Bick scoring with a fine strike into the bottom corner. The Rugbeians grew stronger as the game wore on however and earned a share of the spoils when they scored from a well-worked move midway through the second half. The point keeps the 1s in seventh in Division One.

Team sheets and match reports from all three fixtures are now available in the results section.
