Weekend Round-Up: Mixed results on opening weekend

15 Sep 2025

The opening weekend of the season provided the full range of results for the three OHAFC sides: the 2s thumped the Alleynians 3s 5-1, the 3s earned a 2-2 draw at home to the Canfordians and the 1s fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Merchant Taylors.

The OHAFC 2nd XI provided star billing with a superb display on the astroturf in Hampton to thump perenially tricky opponents the Old Alleynians 3s. The Blues found themselves 3-0 up inside twenty-five minutes courtesy of superb efforts from Tristan David, Andy Hutchinson and Owain James. An own goal made it 4-0 prior to the break and although the hosts pulled a goal back in the second half, Hutchinson's second late on ensured a fine start for the OHAFC.

The 3s began their season with an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to the Old Canfordians in a first ever League meeting between the two clubs. James Walduck put the Blues ahead on twenty minutes, the visitors levelling prior to half-time. Freddie Everett restored the home side's advantage early in the second half but a powerful Canfordians side kept pressing and were rewarded for their efforts when a superb long-range strike flew in from 30 yards out via a combination of crossbar and keeper Tom Mitchell.

But there was disappointment for the 1st XI over on the Phil as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to the newly-promoted Old Merchant Taylors.

The hosts made a terrible start, conceding a penalty after just six minutes. John Russell levelled matters early in the second half, but the visitors replied with a quickfire double to earn a two-goal lead. Ciaran Jordan gave the Blues a glimmer of hope with fifteen minutes remaining but there was no late comeback and Taylors held on to complete the win.

Team sheets and match reports from all three games on the opening weekend of the season are now available in the results section.
