Freddie Brunt
biography
An attacking wide midfielder or striker with a keen eye for goal and a trick or two up his sleeve, Freddie is now one of the veteran players in the 1st XI squad.
He made his debut for the club in the 2004/05 season, playing for 2nd XI whilst still at Newcastle University. The following campaign Freddie played a big part in the side’s successful run to Junior League Cup glory, scoring a superb hat-trick in the semi-final win over Forest on the Sunley Field at Harrow School.
The following season Freddie was promoted to the 1st XI squad, although this didn’t stop him scoring a spectacular winner for the 2’s in their 3-2 victory over main rivals Westminster in Division Three. He started up front alongside Harry Hoffen in the Dunn Cup final win over Bradfield, missing a glorious chance to get his name in lights (and take some of Molloy’s glory) when he fluffed a one-on-one late in the game.
After a couple of further seasons in and out of the 1's, Freddie endured cruel luck when he suffered a bad pelvic injury midway through the 1st XI’s League title-winning campaign of 2009/10 that ruled him out for nearly a year.
He played nine times in the first half of that season, enough to earn him a League winner’s medal, but didn't play again until January 2011 when he made three substitute appearances before playing in five more games prior to the end of a disappointing season for the side.
Freddie enjoyed possibly his most consistent season for the club in 2011/12, playing regularly and ending the season with 15 League appearances and five goals to his name. The highlights were undoubtedly a Man of the Match display in the 4-1 win at Eton, when he scored one and made two, and a superb volleyed goal in the 3-1 win over Lancing. He finished the season scoring the winner in the final match away to Haileybury with a sweet sidefooted finish.
Freddie made sixteen appearances, thirteen as a starter, in 2012/13 but his form, like many of his teammates was inconsistent. He scored once, in the 8-0 mauling of Tonbridge, but that was to be his last goal for the club for some time. At the end of 2013 Freddie packed up his bags and headed for Rio de Janeiro, his dream of becoming a professional futevolei player about to be fulfilled...
Freddie returned home after four years in Brazil just prior to Christmas 2017 leaving a stream of disgruntled Brazilian girls behind...Nevertheless, he was thrust straight back into OHAFC action and he returned with a bang, scoring twice in the 1st XI's 6-2 home win over Malvern. He is set to enjoy a long spell in the first team now as one of the senior players with the team bidding to establish themselves as a Premier Division side once more.
