Rory Craig

biography

Tall, agile, sharp reflexes, a supreme shot-stopper…and also completely nuts. Rory embodies everything a goalkeeper should be. He joined the club for the 2022/23 season and made his debut for the 2s on the opening day of the season in a 1-0 defeat away to the Old Aldenhamians. He established himself quickly as a reliable member of the team – something that proved highly useful for skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins with Kyri Pittalis having taken the decision to retire his keeper gloves and spend his last few seasons of OH football playing outfield.

Rory would go on to make eleven appearances for the club in his debut season, including playing back-to-back games for the 2s and 3s when they both played in Whitton on the same afternoon in mid-November: it proved to be a rather difficult few hours as Rory conceded eight goals and tasted defeat in both matches.

But this setback failed to dissuade the Crawley Town fan from continuing to commit himself to the cause and over the next few seasons Rory made more appearances for the club than nearly any other player. In both the next two seasons only a single player featured more often, Joss Awdry in 23/24 and Ludo Palazzo in 24/25.

2025/26 saw Rory play the first ten games of the season for the 2s, but disaster struck in the fixture away to the Carthusians 2s in Acton in early January when Rory raced from his goal and collided with a forward. He was sent off for his troubles and broke a rib in the process, the 2s going on to lose the game 2-1. Suspension and recovery from injury restricted Rory to playing just three of the final eight games of the season, the 2s forced to use no fewer than five different goalkeepers across the season.

But despite working ridiculously long hours and possessing a strange aversion to allowing any teammates to give him a lift to matches, Rory continues to be at the heart of OHAFC activities, combining keeping duties for the 2s with his role as Subscriptions Secretary – his 98% collection rate for the 2024/25 season a matter of great personal pride to him.
