1st XI slump to Dunn Cup semi-final defeat

10 Mar 2013

The OHAFC 1st XI blew a fantastic opportunity to reach only their second ever Arthur Dunn Cup final on Saturday when they suffered a hugely disappointing and, it must be said, undeserved 4-0 defeat at home to First Division Winchester.

Despite playing the vast majority of the football and continually striving to take the game to their opponents, the Harrow XI could not find a way past a resolute Winchester back four and, at the other end, conceded with disappointing ease, gifting their opponents an unlikely clear passage into the final.

Despite the enormous disappointment of the defeat, there was little more the side could have done. Team selection, preparation and motivation were as good as could have been hoped for, but on the day the visitors proved their run to the semi-finals was no fluke. Having taken the lead midway through the first half, they survived until the break and in the second half took a decisive 2-0 lead from a free-kick.

Despite throwing everything at them in the final half hour, the Harrow team failed to find a way through and conceded two late breakaway goals to give the scoreline a decidedly unfair look.

Nevertheless, the visitors deserved their victory and with it a place in the final against Charterhouse, leaving the Harrow side to dream of what might have been.
