2023/24 Fixtures & Cup Draws

28 Aug 2023

The Arthurian League and Arthur Dunn Cup committee have now released the first wave of fixtures for the new season, with all three OHAFC sides learning of their opponents for the month of September, the 1s discovering their first and potential 2nd round opponents in the Dunn Cup and the Vets learning their first opponents in the Veterans Cup.

In Division One, the OHAFC 1st XI begin their campaign with the visit of newly promoted Old Malvernians to the Hill on September 16th. The Blues have a strong record against the men from the Midlands, with six wins and two defeats from their eight previous League meetings since 2009. The two teams last coincided in Division One in the 2018/19 season, with Malvernians winning 2-0 on the Hill but the Blues scoring six in the return fixture.

The 1s then travel to face the Old Rugbeians the following weekend, the two sides having shared the points in a pair of high-scoring encounters last season: the OHAFC lost 5-4 on the Hill last September but earned a measure of revenge with a 5-3 win on the Whitton astro in March, one of the finest 1s performances in recent seasons that also featured a hat-trick from young forward George Taylor.

The OHAFC 2nd XI have been handed a tough start to life back in Division Three following their relegation at the end of last season. The 2s must endure the arduous trip to Old Brentwoods to face their 2nd XI on September 2nd, Brentwoods having won Division Three with 13 wins from 16 games last season. This will also be comfortably the earliest League fixture the club have played since stats began in 2009, although fortunately the 2s are the only OHAFC side in action on the opening weekend.

Following the Festiphil tournament on the 9th, the 2s then face another away trip, this time south to face the Old Shirburnians on the astroturf in Hampton. The two teams have never met before in League or Cup, although the OHAFC 3s have played five League games against the light blues in recent seasons, losing four of them.

The 2s first home game of the season then follows on the 23rd with the visit of the Epsomians to the Hill. Epsom finished fifth in Division Three last season with a remarkably even record of six wins, six draws and six defeats from their 18 fixtures, 37 goals scored and 37 conceded.

Meanwhile, the OHAFC 3s begin their campaign with the visit of the Old Amplefordians to the Hill on September 16th, the side who finished just below them in Division Four last season, albeit with a vastly inferior record. The two sides enjoyed a pair of tight encounters last season with the Blues earning a narrow 1-0 win on the Hill in February having been held to a 1-1 draw in the away game in September 2022.

The 3s then welcome the Old Wellingtonians to the Hill the following weekend, a side whom they haven't lost to in five previous meetings, winning twice and drawing the other three meetings.

All three OHAFC sides are in action on the final weekend in September, the 1s host the Old Westminsters, the 2s welcome the Old Sennockians to the Hill whilst the 3s travel to the City of London Academy to take on the Old King's Scholars. All fixtures are now available to view on the website.

The OHAFC 1st XI have been handed a relatively kind draw in the early stages of this season's Arthur Dunn Cup, with a home tie against the Old Chigwellians in Round One, followed by another home game against the winners of the Old Wykehamists vs Old Radleians tie in Round Two, should they progress.

Chigs were promoted from Division One last season but only narrowly beat the Blues in two exciting games, winning 3-2 at home and 4-2 on the Hill. With the tie scheduled for October 21st when the 2s do not have a game, skipper Dan Firoozan should be able to name a strong squad for the fixture.

Finally, the OHAFC Vets have also been handed home advantage in the first round of the Vets Cup at the end of November. The visitors will be KCS Wimbledon Vets, who, like the OHAFC, failed to get a side out in the competition last season, handing eventual winners the Old Etonians a bye in round one.
