2s lose JLC semi-final in agonising fashion

24 Feb 2020

The OHAFC 2nd XI were cruelly denied a place in the final of this season's Junior League Cup when they conceded the only goal of their semi-final against the Old Columbans two minutes from the end of extra-time.

In a tense, tight match, both sides were evenly matched and had chances to seal the win in both normal time and the extra half-hour. Harrow came within inches, twice, of scoring the vital first goal, Max Curry firing against the underside of the bar with a crashing shot, before Andres Hutchinson saw his chipped effort cleared off the line, the ball inches from rolling over.

As extra-time neared its conclusion, and both sides out on their feet, a penalty shootout appeared inevitable as the only way to separate the teams. But the Columbans snatched the win following a somewhat fortunate ricochet inside the Harrow penalty area and the Division Three side will now face the Old Carthusians 2s in this season's final in April.

The defeat ends any hope of the OHAFC winning silverware this season.
