3s earn much-needed win away to Shirburnians

First-half goals from Ed Stewart and Freddie Everett earned the OHAFC 3rd XI a much-needed victory away to the Old Shirburnians on Saturday afternoon.

In a tight game, the visitors took the lead via a free-kick, Will Monroe whipping the ball in for 3s' debutant Stewart to flick in with a deft header. The Blues doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Geoff Taunton-Collins raced down the right to supply a low cross for Everett to score from, the Shirburnians keeper making a mess of his attempt at preventing the ball from crossing the line.

Taunton-Collins had a golden opportunity to put the result beyond doubt when he raced through with just the keeper to beat, but sent his shot inches wide of the far post. And the miss looked as though it may prove costly, as the hosts pulled one back with ten minutes remaining to set up a tense finish.

Fortunately, the visitors held on to record just their third League win of the season and ensure they stay clear of the relegation battle unfolding at the foot of Division Four.
