3s exit JLC in disappointing fashion

7 Dec 2020

The OHAFC 3rd XI suffered a surprising and somewhat humiliating defeat at home to the Old Brentwoods 4s in the first round of the Junior League Cup on Saturday.

Despite the visitors arriving on the Hill with a record of six defeats from six Division Five North fixtures, Brentwoods made much the faster start, pressuring the Harrow rearguard from the off and deservedly scoring twice inside the opening ten minutes. When a long ball over the top sent the Brentwoods striker clean through to make it 3-0 on the half-hour the tie looked all but over.

But to Harrow’s credit they slowly fought their way back into the game, no doubt rather embarrassed at their rather shambolic return to action. They were handed a lifeline shortly before the break when Will Glover finished neatly to reduce the arrears to 3-1.

With the wind and slope now in their favour, Harrow continued to press forwards in the second half and Charlie Lupton’s long range strike with twenty-five minutes remaining gave the hosts real hope. But despite dominating the closing stages, the Blues simply could not find a way past a surprisingly resolute Brentwoods defence, the final whistle signalling the end of any Cup hopes for another season at least.
