Quentin Baker to stand down as 1st XI captain

15 May 2012

Quentin Baker has confirmed that he will stand down as 1st XI captain at the end of the current campaign after a remarkable fourteen seasons in charge.

The inspirational midfielder had suggested earlier in the season that he was likely to call time on his run in charge of the side - a period that has seen the side win the First Division title, the Premier League twice and the Arthur Dunn Cup - and he finally confirmed his decision prior to this week's AGM in the City.

Quentin has led with distinction throughout his time in charge, performing consistently well on the field and managing the disparate demands of the job off it.

Quen's final wish was for the side to once more triumph in the Arthur Dunn Cup in his final season at the helm, but the desperately unfortunate 5-4 defeat to Tonbridge in the quarter-finals put paid to that particular ambition.

Nevertheless, with his super-human fitness showing no sign of waning, it is expected that Quen will continue to turn out for the 1's on a regular basis next season.
