Depleted 2s suffer Junior League Cup exit

28 Jan 2019

A depleted OHAFC 2nd XI side suffered a hugely disappointing 2nd round Junior League Cup exit at the hands of the Old Epsomians on Saturday, losing 3-1 away in a performance that never really got going.

With availability an issue for the first time this season, skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins was forced to name two goalkeepers in a squad of twelve as well as hand a recall to former skipper Arjun Chopra, who hasn't featured for the OHAFC for over four seasons.

The first half was one-way traffic on a bobbly pitch that suited the hosts, mid-table in Division Three, far more. Charlie Walsh had already made several fine saves to keep the scores level before he was well beaten by a curler from the Epsom skipper on the half-hour mark. A lapse in concentration from Jack Orr-Ewing then saw him concede a penalty minutes before the break and the Blues found themselves deservedly two goals behind.

A change in formation at the break saw an uplift in the visitors' performance and they pulled aal back with a quarter of an hour remaining following a sustained spell of pressure, Tom Ward bundling in Lederman's free-kick from close range.

But Epsom proved resilient in defence and sealed the win with a breakaway goal a few minutes from time, ensuring the 2s sole remaining focus this season is the League.
