Lack of goals again hurts 2s as they fall to Eton

24 Feb 2019

A continued lack of precision in front of goal once more cost the OHAFC 2nd XI dearly as they slipped to a second consecutive narrow defeat, this time going down 2-1 away to their Old Etonian counterparts.

Despite enjoying some fine passages of play in the first half, the Blues again failed to find the back of the net, with both Hutchinson brothers, Lederman and Max Curry all spurning chances to score. Instead, the Etonians took the lead with a well-taken goal after half an hour.

A stodgy second half display saw the visitors struggle to hold onto the ball for long enough and the hosts doubled their lead in a move that saw skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins suffer a mild concussion.

The Blues did pull a goal back with eleven minutes remaining, Andres Hutchinson finishing off a well-worked move with a first-time cushioned volley.

Substitute Gbeminiyi Soyinka had a golden chance to level with just a few minutes remaining when he was played through by Alexi Pittalis but for once the striker was foiled, the keeper diving to his right to keep out the shot.
