On this weekend...

Continuing our look back through the OHAFC archives at games played on this weekend last season, three seasons ago and five seasons ago...

Last Season: April 13th 2013

OHAFC 1st XI: Lost 6-4 away at Cholmelians in a farcical encounter played on a complete mudbath of a pitch. The surface looked soggy enough on arrival at the ground in north London but once another game had been played on it immediately prior to the Blues’ encounter and with heavy rain starting to fall, it was clear conditions were going to play a major part in proceedings.

To the credit of both sets of players however, the game was played in a good spirit and had any spectators been present, they would have been treated to a ten-goal thriller.

The visitors actually started well in their penultimate away game of the campaign, de Rougemont turning in the opener from Harry Hoffen’s cross. But a catastrophic spell before the break saw the home side score no less than five goals without reply through a combination of mistakes, bad luck and good attacking play.

Skipper Ed Poulter read the riot act at half-time, justifiably so in this case, and the visitors responded enthusiastically, pulling two goals back from Milln’s long throws, Coleridge-Cole and de Rougemont the beneficiaries.

The visitors scored a fourth when Luke de Rougemont completed his hat-trick after an excellent team move and had a golden opportunity to level the match at 5-5 when Harry Hoffen somehow blasted over from four yards out. But the home side sealed the points in the final minute when a comical mix-up between Poulter and goalkeeper David Griffiths allowed a Cholms striker to waltz through and tap home into an empty net.

2nd XI: Lost 3-1 away to Winchester 2’s in another game played in appalling conditions, strong winds and driving rain accompanying the players throughout (see below).

After a month without football the OHAFC, playing in their new away kit of the red tour shirts used in Sofia, started well and created several chances for leading scorer Bemini Soyinka. Pritchard had to be alert to keep out Winchester’s first shot on target a minute before the break and the half ended goalless.

The second half started slightly later than scheduled after the referee, Hugh Wylie, ran off the pitch announcing that he ‘needed to finish my brandy' before play could recommence.

When the game did restart, it was the home side who made all the running, scoring three goals in fifteen minutes to end the game as a contest. The first was a long-range strike, the second courtesy of some slack Harrow defending and the third coming direct from a free-kick.

The visitors pulled a goal back of limited consolation when Phil Berry chested home a left-footed cross from Alex Cater.

3rd XI: No fixture

Three Seasons Ago: April 14th 2012

1st XI: No fixture

2nd XI: Hammered Eton 2’s 8-2 on the Hill to confirm their stay in Division Three for another season at least.

Two Johan Harder strikes inside the first ten minutes calmed Harrow nerves and despite the visitors scoring twice before the break themselves, further Harrow goals from Alex Breeden and captain Chopra – his first for the Club in his eight-year career – gave the hosts a 4-2 half-time lead.

The second half was one-way traffic in Harrow’s favour and they scored four more times to complete a miserable afternoon for the old enemy. Arghebant, Trower and Harder, with his second, scored the first three before Jack Orr-Ewing slammed home a free-kick with seven minutes remaining to complete the rout in style.

3rd XI: No fixture

Five Seasons Ago: April 10th 2010

1st XI: Beat Old Foresters 3-0 in a home fixture played at Teddington Sports Ground with John Lyon’s pitches already being prepared for the cricket season.

It was a vital game for the hosts as they had now closed the gap to leaders Charterhouse to such an extent that the League title was a distinct possibility.

On a beautiful spring day, the home side began the game strongly against a side that had little to play for and opened the scoring in spectacular fashion after twenty minutes when right winger David Lederman fired in a speculative volleyed effort from thirty yards out over a startled goalkeeper.

Striker Luke de Rougemont enjoyed a fine game up front and he scored once in each half to confirm the win and ensure that Harrow remained on Charterhouse’s coat tails.

2nd XI: Lost 5-4 to Forest’s 2’s on the Harrow School New Fields in a topsy-turvy encounter that provided great entertainment for those watching on.

Harrow opened the scoring through Rupert Hoffen and grabbed a second right on half-time through skipper Charlie Reid. A second-half comeback saw the visitors take the lead but two Mike Okoigun goals in three minutes saw Harrow regain the advantage and lead 4-3. The hosts tired however and Forest scored twice inside the final quarter of an hour to claim an unlikely win.

3rd XI: No fixture
