Tass von Hirsch leads Blues to Festiphil glory

17 Sep 2018

The seventh edition of the popular Festiphil tournament took place on Harrow Hill on Saturday afternoon and was once again a resounding success with over 60 schoolboys and OHAFC players enjoying a closely-fought round-robin competition in the warm autumnal sunshine.

Tass von Hirsch's Blue team lifted the trophy with a near perfect record of three wins and a draw from their four matches - they even won the penalty shootout following their goalless draw with Jack Orr-Ewing's Red team.

Kyri Pittalis led the Greens to second place, the only game they didn't win was against von Hirsch's Blues.

The three other sides, led by Orr-Ewing, Max Curry and Charlie Bick could muster only a single win between them in normal time - in this instance, 28 minutes per game.

Watched on by parents and OHAFC scouts, the football was competitive and of a decent quality, especially given the fact that the mixed squads meant many teammates were meeting for the first time.

There were notable performances from some of the schoolboys, with pacey left-footer Christian Boland catching the eye with some Ryan Giggs-like slaloming runs.

The Young Player of the Tournament award went to Toby Gould of the Green team however, following a series of excellent performances in midfield. He was presented with his award by the acting Head Master Mel Mrowiec, who took the time to catch up with some of his former proteges and watch some of the action. Mel even found the time to (correctly) pick up Purples skipper Max Curry on his tardy arrival at the start of the afternoon.

OHAFC vice-president Fred Woolley thanked the school beaks for giving up their time to officiate the games, Charlie Walsh for organising all the squads and school photographer Rachel Marchant for capturing the post-tournament presentations as well as some of the action.

Many congratulations to Tass von Hirsch and his Blue team for lifting the trophy and well played to everyone who took part - this year's competition was undoubtedly the biggest and best yet.
