Vets earn draw in penultimate friendly

The OHAFC Vets fought out a highly enjoyable 1-1 draw against Witan Old boys in their penultimate friendly of the season at the Bank of England Ground on Sunday morning.

Keen to see as many of his Cup final team in action as possible, captain John Wyn-Evans was able to name seven players in the starting lineup who featured in the semi-final win over Forest two weeks ago.

But ironically it was a non-OH, Pete Harris, who came off the bench to give the hosts the lead ten minutes before the break. An overhit cross saw from the left saw Lederman chase the ball down and deliver it back into the box first-time where Harris rose above his marker to plant an excellent header low into the bottom corner.

The game was very even throughout with both sides creating chances and both goalkeepers regularly called into action. Witan were unlucky not to equalise when a long-range effort sailed over Tindall but came back off the underside of the bar.

The second half took a while to reach the heights of the first forty-five minutes, Harrow's passing going awry for long spells. But the black-and-white stripes had enough chances to take a firm grip on the game before they were punished fifteen minutes from time when a corner wasn't dealt with and a mishit cross-shot was deflected in from close range by the fortunate substitute.

The Vets close out their 2013/14 friendly programme with an afternoon fixture against the Old Wykehamists next Sunday before the Easter break and the Vets Cup final against either Eton or Cholms the week after that.
