Weekend Round-Up: 1s stun Ardinians in Dunn Cup

29 Oct 2024

The OHAFC 1st XI stunned Division One leaders the Old Ardinians with a superb performance to defeat the visitors 3-1 and earn a place in the last sixteen of the Arthur Dunn Cup for the first time in five seasons.

After last weekend's humiliating 7-0 defeat at the Kimboltonians and having lost 7-3 to the Ardinians in the League a few weeks ago, few would have given Dan Firoozan's men much of a chance on Saturday morning. But the 1s finally showed up this season and produced a disciplined, determined display to ease past a disappointing Ardinians team.

The first two Harrow goals took advantage of some questionable goalkeeping with George Taylor firing in a superb 40 yard volley following a poor clearance from the edge of the box and Ciaran Jordan pouncing from the edge of the box following a poor first touch. The visitors had hauled themselves back into the game with an equaliser just before the break, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the final minutes when Ed Beecham ran onto a pass from Yunus Sert to beat the keeper at the second time of asking.

The Blues will now travel to Premier Divsion side the Old Bradfieldians in round two in mid-

December.

But there was disappointment for the OHAFC 2s in their crunch clash with Division Three leaders the Old Albanians in St Albans.

Despite producing arguably their best performance of the season to date, the 2s came away empty-handed when the hosts snatched an ill-deserved victory in the final few minutes. Andres Hutchinson scored in the first half and a surprise goal from Giacomo Grasso with ten minutes remaining appeared to have earned the 2s a deserved share of the spoils.

But as the minutes ticked down a superb long-range strike beat keeper Rory Craig to ensure the visitors their first defeat of the season. The side stay in third in Divsion Three whilst the Albanians extend their lead at the top.
