Late blunder sees 2s exit Old Boys Cup

21 Oct 2019

An unfortunate late error by stand-in goalkeeper Edmund Massey saw the OHAFC 2nd XI lose for the first time this season and exit the Old Boys Cup at the first hurdle, losing 4-3 at home to the Old Minchendenians 2s on the Harrow School astroturf on Saturday afternoon.

Massey had earlier made some excellent saves as the Blues began the game sloppily, falling behind in the opening twenty minutes. Pablo Hutchinson scored a fine equaliser, finishing a pinpoint cross from winger Tristan David.

But the visitors began the second half the stronger and scored twice to earn a 3-1 lead. Massey gave away a penalty before a towering header from a corner extended Minchendenians' advantage.

But the Blues fought back and levelled the tie through a penalty of their own, Lederman converting, and a goal from Andres Hutchinson.

The hosts missed several chances to win the game before the late drama that ultimately cost them. Massey made an excellent save with five minutes remaining to apparently force extra-time, but with just a couple of minutes left he misjudged a long ball into the box and the visitors' winger nipped in to bundle the ball over the line from close range.

It was hard luck on both the Harrow goalkeeper and the rest of the side, although the performance was not one of their best so far this season.
